The Fight for Independence Used Asymmetrical Tactics

During the American Revolution, the battles of Lexington and Concord are famously known for the linear battle formations the British took in the fields while the colonial militia men fired their weapons from behind trees and rocks and fences in a guerrilla warfare style. We know this now as asymmetrical warfare. It was a part of the winning strategy that led up to our infamous Independence Day.
Asymmetrical warfare characteristically involves defending people or an idea such as #freedom and #democracy and not merely land or territory. Battles are fought in atypical formation.
Today we are faced with the same asymmetry as autocratic nations who are not free form their own insurgency battles against the field formations of the American populous. They snipe at us from behind the trees of cyberattack, the rocky crags of social media disinformation campaigns, and the divisional fences of civil unrest.
We must build a better homeland security, resiliency and savvy to fight modern asymmetrical insurgency against us. Keep America free. Have a safe 4th of July.
